Frequently Asked Questions

How many throwout/dropped rounds are there in the series?

If our series has 8 or under rounds than there is only one throwaway.

If our series has 9 or more rounds than there are two throwaways.

How do throwout/dropped rounds work?

Your lowest score will count as a dropped round. If you don’t show, DNF, DNS, etc. that will still count as a dropped round. So it comes out to who is the best racer in those 7 out 8 or 8 out of 10 (etc.) rounds that will be crowned the champion.

Do Pro or Big Wheel Classes get any throwouts/drops?

No. Pro or Big Wheel classes do not get any throwout or drop rounds.

Do I need a registration sticker?

For the majority of our rounds the answer is no. If we are on a private property race such as Bellingham, WA or Wilseyville, CA than no you will not need one. If we are at a public rounds race such as Doyle, CA then you will need one. This will be listed on the flier.

Do I need a spark arrestor?

This will be listed on the flier but the majority of our rounds that are on private property will not require them. Public land races typically require them. Check the bottom of the flier for this info or website.

Do I need to get a membership to get points?

The only membership you need in order to receive AMA West Hare Scramble Points is an AMA Membership. Otherwise if you are chasing a local series points that we have cosanctioned a race with such as OMRA then you will need that local membership to receive those local points.

What do I need to do in order to receive a finish at an AMA West Hare Scramble?

You will need to do at least 50% of the leaders laps in your class AND take the checkered flag. (This is why you might see some people pulling off and waiting at the finish line during the longer races)

Does the checkered flag come out on time or on the leader?

The checkered flag comes out on the leader. So if your race is an hour long and the overall leader comes in at 59 minutes and 59 seconds than the leader and everyone behind him will be doing one more lap. We use the leaders lap time to judge when we are throwing the white flag and this is a courtesy white flag meaning the leader could just take checkers without seeing the white flag.

I know I finished behind someone physically that was in a different class but why does it show me in a different position overall on the results?

While your class finish will correctly show you how you physically finished in your class your overall results might differ. This is due to the time adjustment between rows which is typically separated by class and there is typically one minute between rows on the start.
